The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called on stakeholders to provide adequate security for corps members in the coming general elections.

Mrs. Theresa Arokoyo, Coordinator of NYSC in Niger state, made the humble call yesterday, at a forum with stakeholders in Minna.

A statement by the Head of Public Relations of NYSC, stated that Arokoyo urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) to prioritise the security of corps members during and after the elections.

She stressed the fact that the corps members have been trained to be diligent and non-partisan.
“It is, however, imperative to ensure as much as possible the safety of these corps members while carrying out this national assignment,” she said.

The Director of DSS in Niger state, Dauda Abubakar, while responding, gave the assurance that the service would provide security for corps members as well as ensure a peaceful electoral process in the state.
He urged the corps members to be security conscious and avoid movements away from their statutory locations.

Also, the Commissioner of Police, Niger state, Paul Yakadi, said arrangement had been put in place for the deployment of adequate personnel across polling units and the state generally for the elections.
