8 Lecturers Dismissed For Sexual Scandal in Akwa-Ibom State University

Prof. Eno Ibanga, Vice Chancellor of the Akwa Ibom State University, has revealed that about eight lecturers of the institution have been dismissed from the university between 2015 and 2019 over established cases of sexual scandals and extortions against some students.Vice-Chancellor-Akwa-Ibom-State-University-Prof.-Eno-Ibanga

The VC disclosed this on Tuesday at the university’s main campus during a pre-convocation press briefing to mark the 4th and 5th combined convocation of the institution.

Prof. Ibanga stated that his administration has zero tolerance to sex-for-marks, sorting, extortion and cultism, adding that some of the sex-for-marks cases were in court and ten students involved in cultism recently were caught by the management of the university.

“The students were caught at the junction of the main campus with a mini coffin, red cloth and axes where on their way to an initiation ceremony,” the VC stated.

He also noted that the university is doing its best to instill sanity among lecturers and students, adding that such cases were thoroughly investigated by the management before disciplinary measures are carried out.

The Vice Chancellor, on the coming convocation, stated that 2,000 graduating students would be conferred with award of degrees, noting that forty-one out of the number would receive first class honour.
