Akwa Ibom State University Introduces Whistle Blowing Policy

The Vice Chancellor of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof. Eno Ibanga, over the weekend stated that the institution has introduced a whistle blowing policy to curb all vices plaguing the university system.

The VC made this known during his address at the 9th matriculation ceremony of the university, which was held at the Ikot-Akpaden campus of the institution.

Ibanga said any student or staff, who assists the university to curb rape cases, sex-for-marks, impersonation and others, would be rewarded with N100,000 when proven to be true.

“We have introduced a whistle blowing policy in the university where anuone, staff or student, that can help the institution to curb the following vices and when proven to be true, we will pay such persons hundred thousand naira.

“Report of the following vices among others will be rewarded; payment of money for marks, rape cases, sex-for-marks, cultism and impersonation,” the VC stated.

According to the VC, a help line has been put in place in the campus and all students and staff are advised to call the line to report any deviant behavior in the school.

The Vice Chancellor, who disclosed that one lecturer had been suspended and the matter reported to the police over anti-social behavior, warned the matriculating students to desist from act that could frustrate their careers.

While congratulating the newly admitted students, he reminded them that the school does not tolerate anti-social acts and also warned them against indulging in social media for negative reasons, adding that anybody found publishing anything concerning the university without obtaining clearance from the institution, would be dealt with.
