Akwa Ibom University Donates 2 Surveillance Vehicles To State Police Command

The Akwa Ibom State University, on Tuesday donated two surveillance vehicles to the state police command aimed at monitoring the security situation on the two campuses of the university.

 

Prof. Eno Ibanga, Vice Chancellor of the university, presented the surveillance vehicles to the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Zaki Ahmed on the institution’s main campus at Ikot Akpanden.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the donation was in fulfilment of his promise to security operatives during the last stakeholders’ meeting he held with the host communities of the institution.

 

Prof. Ibanga also made it known that the meeting as actually held in the wake of security threats in the university occasioned by killing of a students by a notorious phone snatcher and other violent crimes in the university.

 

“Definitely, whatever we promised during the security meeting has been fulfilled even beyond. Remember that I appealed to Governor Udom Emmanuel to construct a perimeter fence and when the governor inaugurated internal roads in the university, he ordered the perimeter fencing to be constructed on the campus for safety of our students,” the VC stated.

 

The VC commended the police for the prompt handling of security matters on the campuses and also expressed the hope that the vehicles would assist them to curb insecurity threatening the institution in recent times.
