EFCC Arrests Covenant University IT Staff Over N180m Diversion

The Economic and Financial Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of a member of staff of the Information Technology department of Covenant University in Ogun state, for allegedly diverting N180 million tuition fees belonging to the institution.


Tony Orilade, Head, Media and Publicity of EFCC, according to reports, confirmed that a Covenant University staff has been with the anti-graft agency for some days over an alleged case of stealing which was reported by the Chancellor of the institution.


According to the Chancellor of the university, the diversion was said to have taken years before the university discovered the fraud.


The Chancellor of the university and Presiding Bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo, reportedly described the staff’s lifestyle as ‘riotous’.


The suspect was said to have bought some flashy cars, which he allegedly kept in a mansion he bought with part of the stolen money at Lekki, Lagos, despite having a house in the school where he lives with his wife.
