The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday suspended its three month industrial action following an agreement the union reached with the Federal Government.

ASUU, however, warned that the suspension is not an outright call-off adding that if the FG reneges on the memorandum of agreement reached, the union will embark on another industrial action with full force.

According to the union, lecturers have also been asked to resume back to their lecturing work on Friday. The information was contained on ASUU’s Twitter handle, @ASUUNGR on Thursday evening.

The strike by lecturers of public universities was called off after a two hour meeting with the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige.

While expressing gratitude to the union for their understanding, the Minister said that eight areas of disagreements were discussed and agreed upon by the two parties.

Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, ASUU President, said lecturers are to resume on Friday, February 8, 2019.
