The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), on Wednesday announced an endowment fund of N40 million for Bayero University, Kano (BUK) and Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) for research and development.
Prof. Umar Danbatta, Chairman of NCC, who announced the endowment, said that the gesture was in line with the ideals and mandate of NCC to enable research institutions actualize their potentials in the knowledge of the economy.
Prof. Danbattu noted that the amount will be shared N20 million each for the two universities in the 2019 academic session, while the Commission plans for other potential institutions in the coming years.
The Chairman urged the institutions to channel the fund to the objectives it was meant and also challenged the students of the institutions to seize the opportunity to actualize their potentials, assuring them that the Commission will do more if the objectives of the funding are realized.
The highlight of the event was the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between NUC and the Vice Chancellors of the two universities.
