
Forty-eight students of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, were on Wednesday awarded with one hundred thousand naira each by the Chinese Government to support their educational pursuit.
According to report, the gesture was part of the Nigerian-China educational collaboration tagged ‘October 1st Scholarship for China-Nigerian Friendship’.
Speaking on behalf of the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Zhou Pingjiang, the Deputy Ambassador, Mr. Zhao Yong, stated that the award was the second by the Chinese Embassy to selected ‘intelligent students of ABU’.
“In terms of investment, the accumulated China non-financial investment in Nigeria approaches USD2.8 billion, contributing significantly to local economy and job creation,” he added.
The Vice Chancellor of ABU, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, stated that the support the institution was getting from the Chinese government was immeasurable, adding that the Chinese language teacher provided to ABU by China was adding value to the relationship.
