Conditions of Service For Universities Must Be Constantly Reviewed, Says Head of Civil Service

Winifred Ekanem Oyo-Ita, Head of Civil Service of the Federation has stated that the condition of service for universities across the country must be regularly reviewed.

Oyo-Ita, who was a guest speaker at the 3rd annual registry lecture of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), stated that the key training and manpower development centres of universities must be subjected to critical review.

“The condition of service for universities must be subjected to regular review in tandem with new trends and challenges in the day to day administration of universities.

“The key training and manpower development cemtres of the universities must be subjected to critical review of their curriculum in line with international best practices.

“The educational curriculum of tertiary institutions must create a deserve subject matter on university administration for the sake of those who want to choose career as university administrators,” she stated.

She however, suggested that potential university Registrars and Vice Chancellors must be mandated to undergo compulsory training on university administration as a prerequisite for their appointment.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem said that the annual lecture started four year ago as a result of the desire of reliable non-teaching staff to continuously enhance their performance for the continuous glory of the university.
