Yobe State University Damaturu has on Monday commenced academic activities despite the ongoing nationwide strike by lecturers of public universities.
The Registrar of the institution, Dr. Kalli Alkali Yusuf Gazali, released a duly signed internal circular with reference number R/YUS/GC/014/vol./15, dated 24th December, 2018, addressed to Provost, Deans, Directors and Head of Departments indicating the institution’s resumption date.

“This is to the Provost, Deans, Directors and Head of Departments that, lectures after Christmas and New Year break will commence on Monday 7th January, 2019 for the 2018/2019 academic session.
“This is for the compliance of all Faculties, Directorates and Departments,” the circular reads.

Reports revealed that lectures, on Monday, commenced in some departments of the university with few students in attendance.

However, when contacted via phone on the position of the union as regards to the resumption despite the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, the ASUU branch chairman of the institution, Mohammed Adamu Gulani said, “our position is still the same as ASUU National.”

He was ascertained that members of the union will not breach the union’s trust and insisted that there is pure unity of purpose among them.
