David Umahi, Executive Governor of Ebonyi state has approved the relocation of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) to his home town, Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.
The Ebonyi state government also announced its plans to establish a teaching hospital in the home town of the Governor to complement the existence of the Faculty in the area.
Dr. Daniel Umezurike, Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, made this known during a press briefing shortly after the end of the state Executive Council meeting at the EXCO Chambers, Government house in Abakaliki.
The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences is presently at the former Presco Secondary School within the Abakaliki capital city. Also approved is the establishment of the department of Pharmacy in the same location.
“Council had a very fruitful deliberation. It was a joint session between the Council and EBSU management. And they deliberated extensively on the need to expand the courses offered in EBSU and it was agreed that there will be establishment of Faculty of Engineering and Environmental Sciences.
“A committee to hand the proposals and logistics of what it will take to establish the faculty will soon be announced. Also, in the discussion today is the approval of Council to move the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences to another location in Uburu where a teaching hospital will also be sited,” he stated.
