The Ebonyi State Government has commenced investigation into the alleged sack of over sixty-three staff of the Ebonyi State University (EBSU) in Abakaliki, by the new management of the university.
Reports reveal that the development has caused serious controversy with some quarters in the state claiming that the action was politically motivated.
Speaking shortly after its first sitting on Monday, the Chairman, Ebonyi State Executive Committee, Senator Emmanuel Onwe said that the setting up of the committee was to ensure that no staff of the university was unjustly dismissed.
Senator Onwe who is also the Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, stated that the state Governor after his meeting with the leadership of the Non Academic Staff of Universities (NASU) of the institution recently set up the committee to look at the cases of the sacked staff with a view to giving them fair hearing.
He assured the affected staff that the committee would ensure objectivity and treat all cases with its merit acknowledged that the management of the institution during the auditing did a thorough job expressing happiness that the public hearing and given the state government opportunity to get more insight into the problem.
