The Imo Elders Council has called for the arrest and prosecution of the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Prof. Francis Ezeonu and the Vice Chancellor of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Prof. Joseph Ahanaku for allegedly concealing the relationship of the REC with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)’s governorship candidate.

Prof. Francis Ezeonu is allegedly an in-law to Emeka Ihedioha. The council noted that it was highly treacherous and an indictment on the UNIZIK’s VC, Prof. Ahanaku who is aware of the relationship between the duo, to have concealed the information and called for their arrest and prosecution.

The Council said that the APC governorship candidate, Sen. Uzodinma won the elections in booths and polling units, but the results were manipulated to favour the PDP candidate.
“We have it on record that the REC relied on only the results of three out of the twenty-seven local governments in the state to declare the PDP governorship candidate winner and this is preposterous,” the Council stated.

The Council has maintained that the result announced by INEC was at variance with the votes cast by the people across the state and called on the national leadership of the party to rise up and claim its mandate.

It urged INEC to reverse itself and declare the APC candidate winner of the election to avoid subverting the will of the people.
