The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has said the institution will organize a candlelight procession for one of its alumni, Prof. Pius Adesanmi, who died aboard the Boeing 737 Max8 that crashed last week.

According to a statement signed by Kunle Akogun, the Director, Corporate Affairs of the institution, the candlelight procession would be organized by the Faculty of Arts, on March 19, 2019.
The university described the death of Prof. Adesanmi as colossal loss to the entire country and humanity in general.

Akogun said the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, also described the late Adesanmi as a true nationalist and a rare patriot. He described him as a humanist and an embodiment of all the ideals that UNILORIN represents.

He said the late Prof. of Literature and African Studies graduated from the University of Ilorin in1992 with a First Class Honors degree in French.

The VC lamented that Adesanmi’s death came at a time when the nation needed his robust intellectual and incisive contribution to its development most. Being a committed nationalist, the late Adesanmi was never happy with the state of rot in critical sectors of the nation.

While commiserating with the entire nation, especially the immediate family of the deceased, the VC urged Nigerians not to allow Prof. Pius Adesanmi die in vain adding that Nigerians should emulate his patriotic zeal toward taking the country to greater heights.
