Federal Government Declares Support For Safe Schools Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria has signed the document for the Safe Schools Initiative, showing the nation’s commitment to what is contained in the guidelines for the program.

Mallam Adamu Adamu, Minister of Education made this known to pressmen at the end of the week’ cabinet meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Nigeria has now signed the safe schools declaration, we have been a member and there have been a number of activities on that platform but now formally mean we are committed to implementing what is in the safe schools guidelines,” the Minister stated.

The Safe Schools Initiative has been launched around the world, backed by research and support form Theirworld, A World at School movement and The Global Business Coalition for Education.

The Minister of Education also announced that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the sum of N613m for the construction of a faculty at the Adamawa State University.

“We awarded a contract for the construction of a faculty in Adamawa State University at the cost of N613, 395, 615. The decision was in tune with the Federal Government’s program of coming to the aid of States or areas affected by conflict,” the Minister added.
