
The Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO) has been appointed Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE – FUELS).
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Francis Chukwuemeka Eze, has said that the institution is one of the seventeen universities in the country approved as Africa Centre of Excellence in various specific research areas.
He disclosed this while briefing pressmen on the activities slated for the 31st convocation ceremony of the institution coming up this weekend.
The VC said that FUTO ACE – FUELS is sponsored by the World Bank in collaboration with the Association Of African University (AAU) with the aim of improving the quality and quantity of higher degree programs in the continent.
Eze said that the project has been put at USD 6 million in the first phase of four years and renewable for another four years.
“By the same token, FUTO emerged over all best in the Maiden Open Education Resources ranking by the National Universities Commission (NUC) in 2018, by this ranking, the university was rated the best university in the country with the highest online resources,” the VC stated.
