The Director of Natioanl Education Academy and Senior Lecturer, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Prof. Adams Agahiu, has urged the Federal Government of Nigeria to immediately declare a state of emergency in the education sector due to decay and academic laxities among Nigerian students.
The Director gave the urge in a media interaction in Lokoja, Kogi state.
According to him, the decay in both infrastructure and education has reached an alarming rate whereby the FG must urgently intervene to arrest the ugly trends.
He said there is high level of indiscipline and lackadaisical attitudes from teachers and students of both secondary and tertiary institutions.
“Indiscipline on the part of the students has made them more lazy and unable to read. Reading culture among Nigerian students is now nightmarish owing to the availability of smart phones and internet and all these encourage examination malpractices, cultism and other vices among students,” he stated.
