The Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri has acquired three new hostels to become a residential institution.

Prof. Adaobi Obasi, Vice Chancellor of the university, made this known at the 27th matriculation ceremony of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor told the newly admitted students they were lucky, being the first set of students to occupy the newly built hostels and also urged them to take their studies seriously.

“IMSU aims at encouraging the advancement of learning in Imo state in particular and Nigeria at large and holding out to all students, irrespective of race, creed or sex, the opportunity to acquire higher education.

“Other targets of the institution include ensuring the publication and dissemination of results of such academic and professional researches and discoveries, including community service to humanity,” the VC stated.

The VC thanked the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Federal Ministry of Education and the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) for funding the construction of various buildings in the university.

Prof. Obasi warned against cultism, indecent dressing, examination malpractice, impersonation and lateness for lectures.
