The Lagos State University (LASU) Alumni Association has organized annual lectures in honour of Prof. Folabi Olumide and late Prof. Jadesola Akande, the first and second Vice Chancellors of the institution.
According to a statement on Wednesday by the Alumni Association, the lectures were instituted in appreciation of their efforts at laying a solid foundation for the university over twenty years ago.
While the Prof. Olumide lecture will be hosted annually by the Lagos chapter of the association, the one in honour of late Prof. Akande will be hosted annually by the Abuja chapter of the association.
The statement also disclosed that the maiden edition of the Prof. Folabi Olumide Annual Lecture series was held on Thursday at the Aderemi Makanjuola lecture theatre, Ojo campus of the university which was delivered by the Provost of the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Prof. Ebun Alabi, with the topic; ‘Rethinking Medical Education: An imperative health care in Nigeria’.
Eminent personalities, including the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, and seceral others from the academia, health sector, and former principals of the university attended the event.
