The Musim Rights Concern (MURIC) has accused the Adeleke University in Ede, Osun stste, of persecuting Muslim students in the university which was contained in a statement recently issued by the Director of MURIC, Prof. Ishaq Akintola.

Akintola stated that Adeleke University is a serial violator of Allah-given fundamental rights of Muslim students because the university made it mandatoey for Muslim students to attend church on Sundays.

“It makes it mandatory for students living in the hostel to attend church every Wednesday and Saturday,” the statement said.

“The practice of any other faith on campus except Christianity is banned. Muslim students must not been seen observing Salat,” Akintola added.

MURIC has called on the National Universities Commission (NUC) to come to the rescue of Muslim students in the institution.

The organisation further invites NUC to take a look at the students’ handbook of Adeleke University, especially pages 7, 49, 50,56 and 60, which according to Akintola, contain rules that infringe freedom of Muslim students.

“We therefore call on NUC to investigate this issue as a matter of urgency. Reliious repression is a potential threat to peace, law and order,” Akintola stated.
