The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), has declared that there was no ASUU splinter group known as the Congress of University Academics (CONUA) in the institution, insisting that all academic members of the institution are solid members of ASUU.
Chairman of ASUU, AAU chapter, Monday Lewis Igbafen and the Secretary of the union, Anthony Coker, in a statement jointly signed after a special congress meeting, stated that the said media reports were misleading and did not reflect the position on ground at the university.
“After an exhaustive discussion of the report, the congress of ASUU AAU, Ekpoma Chapter, observed that the said press reports are misleading and do not reflect the position on ground at AAU,” Igbafen stated.
He made it known that the people who are acyually promoting the so-called CONUA were on suspension from the union for transgression against the union’s rules and regulations.
The Chairman and his Secretary stated that the congress moved and submitted caterorically that aside from the two persons who were suspended from the union, no other academic members of the institution belong to CONUA, adding that academic staff of AAU are solid members of ASUU.
