The National Universities Commission (NUC) has developed new blueprints aimed at revitalizing the university education in Nigeria between 2019 and 2023.
Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, Executive Secretary of the commission made this known at the 3rd convocation of the Elizade University in Ogun state.
The NUC boss, whose address was read by the Director, Quality Assurance of the commission, Dr. Noel Saliu, stated that the document was produced in a bid to rejuvenate Nigerian Universities.
He said the development of the blueprint was thought on an extensive multi stakeholder base and that input were sought from students, parents, teaching and non-teaching, Vice Chancellors and other stakeholders in the education sector.
Prof. Rasheed, therefore, solicited of all stakeholders, government, academia, industries and all well-meaning Nigerians to “achieve the strategic objectives of the blueprint so that the document will not go the way of past strategic documents that were not implemented.”
He also disclosed that the commission had produced the Code of Corporate Governance for private universities to guide the Proprietors, Board of Trustees, Governing Council and University Management in the Governance of the universities.
Commending Elizade University for the feat achieved so far, the NUC boss said the commission was impressed by its achievement despite its young age.
