The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) of Ile-Ife has just been shut down this morning; the main gate, Senate building gate and other administrative buildings have been locked up, according to a report reaching Campusbiz; officials of the Osun State Internal Revenue Service (IRS) are still in the premises trying to luck up other buildings over the Institution’s failure to pay up a hug tax debt of about N1.8bn.
Though, Campusbiz could not immediately verify the report but Dailypost Nigeria says it has confirmed the report and that after a phone call it was able to ascertain that the officials of IRS, led by Oladipo Babatunde arrived the campus at exactly 7:00am, and went straight to lock the main entrance to the campus, popularly called Road 1, and the gate to the Senate Building, including the administrative block and the bursary office.
It quoted the PRO of the Institution, Abiodun Olanrewaju as confirming the report saying: “we just discovered that tax officials have locked our main entrance gate and the administrative block.
“We are already speaking with Osun State government , and hope to resolve it soonest,” Olanrewaju said.
This closure is coming after the government gave the institution a 7 day ultimatum.
