Professor Peter Okebukola, a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission has pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities to call off the ongoing industrial action in public universities.
He made the appeal while delivering a lecture at the first Kwara State Education Lecture at KWASU on Thursday in Moro Local Government Area of Kwara state.
Okebukola appealed to the union to embrace dialogue. He said that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, had been working towards resolving the issue.
“This is an appeal, that dialogue should be explored to the fullest in resolving the matter and the strike called off to provide an ambience environment for dialogue. You can see the genuineness and commitment of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, to restoring the glory of our educational system, Okebukola said.
“He is the first to ensure that a state of emergency was declared in the education sector. This means that he is aware of what ASUU is clamoring for and he has started taking steps to address many of the issues,” he added.
According to Punch, the event was used to launch an award for administrative excellence to KWASU’S Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdulrasheed Na’Allah from Global University Network for Innovation in Africa.
