The University of Ibadan has written the management of the Igbajo polytechnic, a community owned tertiary institution in Osun state following the crises in the polytechnic over the alleged fraudulent PhD certificates that was presented by the rector, Akinola Olaolu.
The letter addressed to the chairman of the governing council, Prof. Olu Odeyemi, stated that Olaolu did not have MSc and PhD in Economics from the University as reported by Punch. Olatunji Oladejo, public communications, UI, said the institution had no record of the rector when contacted.
The independent corrupt practices and other related offences commission (ICPC), in a statement by its spokesperson, Rasheedat Okoduwa, said the rector has been arrested and detained at the Ibadan office of the agency.
Investigation revealed that the rector had his first degree in biology from the university of Lagos in June 1977. With the BSc in biology, he registered for a master of business administration (MBA) in UI in 1996 and completed the terminal course. His claim of having BSc. And PhD in Economics has been proved abortive.
