Students of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Ondo state, yesterday protested against the gruesome killing of one of their fellow student, identified as Israel Anuoluwapo, by a hit-and-run reckless driver.

Anuoluwapo, who was a 100-level student of the Department of Mathematics, was allegedly crushed to death in front of the institution’s main entrance on Tuesday evening.

During the protest, the university students reportedly barricaded the Ilesa-Akure expressway, singing solidarity songs.

Reports revealed that the protest was said to have caused gridlock on the road, as motorists, especially travelers, were delayed for several hours.

FUTA students demanded that the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing erect speed bumps on the expressway to avert such incidents.

Reports also revealed that it took the intervention of men of the Ondo State Police Command, who pleaded to the sad students to open the express road.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, when contacted, stated that the issue had been resolved, adding that the state government had agreed to erect speed bumps on the expressway.
