The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has again failed to resolve their differences during a meeting they yesterday, in Abuja.

The head of the FG delegation, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, said the meeting recorded partial success.
ASUU President, Biodun Ogunyemi, who said the FG made new offer, refused to speak on the outcome of the meeting. Rather, he said he would meet with members of the union and report the union’s position coming Thursday, which is the next adjourned day.

While addressing pressmen after the meeting, Ngige said some progress have been made, adding that it was left for the union to consult with its members and get back on Thursday.

“It has been protracted but the good news is that we have gotten to the end of the tunnel,” the Minister stated.

On whether the FG has accepted to provide N50bn demanded by the striking lecturers of public universities, Ngige said the FG has offered ASUU something very reasonable and that they have agreed to take it back to their people and to reconvene next Thursday.
