The Authority of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso has stated that students interested in contesting for position in the Students’ Union must undergo drug tests.

In a statement released over the weekend in Ibadan, LAUTECH said it would no longer fold its arms and watch the future of youths by drugs.

According to the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Lekan Fadeyi, LAUTECH has entered a partnership with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Fadeyi said the university Vice Chancellor, Prof. Michael Ologunde, made the statement when he hosted the NDLEA area commander, Yusuff Ahmed in Ogbomoso.

In his response, the NDLEA commander said the category most affected by drugs are students adding that NDLEA is seriously troubled about the ugly trend.

“Rather than expel culprits, we will appreciate if you use both our counseling and rehabilitation centers as means of rehabilitating those saved from the path of peril,” the NDLEA commander stated.

Recall that in 2018, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) had given similar regulation, making drug tests mandatory for new intakes of the university.
