The Pharmacy students of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), yesterday, grounded activities along the ever busy Benin-Lagos expressway over fears that their graduating students may not be able to undergo induction due to non-completion of program.

The protest came after a two months industrial action by the lecturers of the institution over non-payment of sundry allowances by the management of the university.

However, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Michael Osasuyi stated that the allowances being demanded by the lecturers were not known to the school but he confirmed that the university management has met with a view to resolve the impasse.

As at yesterday evening, there’s still traffic along the road as the students did not allow any vehicle to enter the campus while vehicles coming from Lagos had to pass through the rough road opposite 7Up Bottling Company to get access to the main city.

“Our lecturers went on strike last year on this same matter and the university management assured them that their issues will be looked into but nothing was done and two months ago, they embarked on a fresh strike and the implication is that our students who are due for induction will not be able to go through. We want the management to look into it,” one of the protesting students stated.
