Students of UNILAG Develop Application To Enhance Security, Communication


A group of students of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), in a decisive effort to boost communication and security, has developed an application that will enhance security and upgrade communication within the university campus whch is known as ‘Lagmobile’.


The Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, commenting on the application during its launch over the weekend, stated that the syudents are bloggers and that the university is encouraging them in this regard as well as supporting them as much as possible.


“We threw up this challenege open to all of the syudets cutting across all the departments and faculties when we thought about improving communication as well as the level of security on our campus.

“This app was designed in such a way that if, for instance, there is a case of kidnap, cultism, all the person affected needs to do is to click a button on his or her phone and once this is done, probably accompanied by a short message, wherever such the person is, the signal will be sent to the right quarters for urgent intervention,” the VC stated.


He also made it known that the application is capable of helping students with information on academic problems by directing them to the appropriate channels.

Prof. Ogundipe revealed that the group of stuents, in two weeks to come, will launch another application that would serve as a map within the university.


“The essence is to direct or inform visitors and students how to reach whoever they want to see at various locations within the university without necessary asking questions around,” he added.
