The University of Calabar is set to establish another microfinance bank for the people of Bekwara Local Government Area of Cross River state.
The institution can boast of two other Microfinance banks in Obudu area and at the main campus of the institution in Calabar.
Prof. Zana Akpagu, Vice Chancellor of the university, disclosed this at the conferment of traditional titles on him and his wife by the Paramount Ruler of Bekwarra, Ody Linus Ogbeche.
They were conferred with Okungboo1 and Unye Okungboon of Bekwarra which are translated to as ‘torch bearers of the community’.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the microfinance bank would commence operations by August this year.
“I don’t think we deserve the titles, but we see them as a call to duty and call to serve humanity,” the VC stated.
The paramount ruler, in his speech, commended the Vice Chancellor for bringing growth and development to the community.
