In its bid to find solution to the allegation and counter allegation of gross statutory breaches and violation of Public Procurement Act rocking the University of Lagos (UNILAG), the House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement has summoned the Pro-Chancellor of the institution, Dr. Wale Babalakin; Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe; Registrar, Bursar and Director of Procurement.
In a letter by the House of Reps which was addressed to the Chairman of the Governing Council, Babalakin, the affected principal officers are to appear before the lawmakers on the 16th of May, 2019 to explain their role in the allegations of gross statutory breaches and violation of the public procurement Act 2007.
“Some of the allegations are that numerous senior officials of the past and current administrations are involved in this abuse, including former and current VCs, former and current deputy VCs, former Registrars, among others,” part of the letter stated.
An emergency meeting of the institution’s Governing Council took place yesterday between 10am and 5:20pm which generated tension on campus with the presence of armed policemen and bouncers.
It is recalled that the crisis started when Babalakin issued queries to the university Vice Chancellor and other principal officers of the institution through the Registrar, Oladejo Azeez.
