The Government Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has fixed an emergency meeting this week to discuss about the ongoing contentious report of its committee on the finances of the institution.
Report revealed that the Governing Council under the leadership of Dr. Wale Babalakin set up a ten-man committee to look into the finances of the university from 2017 to 2019.
The alleged decision of the council’s chairman to solely implement the report without the contributions of the council members generated ripples on campus.
After the submission of the report to Babalakin, he allegedly directed the Registrar of the institution, Oladejo Azeez, who is also the secretary to the governing council, to issue queries to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe and other affected principal officers without the knowledge of the council members.
Following the outcry against the queries and moves by some internal council members to force a meeting, Dr. Babalakin had to call for an emergency meeting to discuss the content of the report.
According to a senior management staff of the institution, the council emergency meeting has been fixed for Monday and Tuesday, adding that “the agenda to discuss are the finance committee report and actions taken by the council chairman”.
