Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has said that about 12,000 admission applicants into the university will be admitted for the 2019/2020 academic session of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor of the institution made this known to newsmen while speaking at the annual breaking of fast (Iftar) over the weekend.

The VC said the institution has commenced lobbying of the National Universities Commission (NUC) for an increase in the subsisting quuta of 10,900 allocated to the university.

Prof. Abdulkareem, who said that the move was to accommodate a massive number of admission seekers, added that the university had become one of the most subscibed tertiary institutions in the country.

He also explained that his goal was to have limitless admission quota if not for NUC and the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) regulatory activities, adding that the allocation of admission quota was dependent on carrying capacity and facilities on each campus of the universities.

Abdulkareem said the main challenge facing his administration was provision of enough classrooms due to increased number of students on campus. He said the university had provided gadgets in the lecture theatres to cope with the situation.
