The University of Benin (UNIBEN), on Saturday matriculated 11,772 new students who were offered provisional admission for the 2018/2019 academic session.

Prof. Faraday Orumwense, Vice Chancellor of the university, who announced the figure at the ceremony, revealed that over seventy-five thousand students applied for the institution’s admission.

According to him, the National Universities Commission (NUC), expanded its quota to accommodate more candidates, because more courses have been accredited in the university.

“Let me also place on record that the NUC has accredited more courses in the university, thereby creating enough room to accommodate more candidates,” the VC stated.

The VC urged the students to shun vices which include cultism, prostitution and examination malpractice, also urging them to make use of the facilities provided by the institution.

Orumwense charged the newly admitted students to remain focused in their academic pursuit, as well as strive hard for excellence which is the hallmark of the university.

The university’s Registrar, Dr. Otasowie Oshondin, administered the matriculation oath on the students.
