University of Ilorin Secures Seeding Labs Equipment Grant


The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has made it known that the Department of Chemistr of the institution has secured a Seeding Labs Equipment grant of over twenty million naira.


According to the weekly Bulletin of the university which was issued on Monday, the Chemistry Department submitted two research proposals on cancer and cosmeceuticals that eventually won the grant for the school.

The Principal Investigator, Prof. Ezekiel Odebunmi, stated that Seeding Labs is a US-based Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to helping scientists make discoveries that improve life and the planet.


Prof. Odebunmi stated that that the NGO is dedicated to removing ke y barrier to research and science teaching by making laboratory equipment available to universities in low-and middle-income countries.


According to reports made available to campusbiz, the Seeding Labs equipment include, Mass Spectrometer, Scanning Electron Microscope, High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography and other consumables among others.


The bulletin made it known that the grant will improve the Department’s research productivity while enhancing the training of both our undergraduate and postgraduate students of the institution.


It also explained that the Chemistry Department won the grant after an unsuccessful first attempt in the 2016.
