The Student Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES) unit of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) organized one day orientation program for students due for industrial training.

Reports revealed that the exercise, which was in conjunction with ITF area office, Awka, was held at the Garba Square of the institution.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Joseph Ahaneku, who declared the event opened, noted that SIWES was a key factor that could facilitate industrialization and economic development in the nation by equipping students of tertiary institutions with the necessary scientific and technological skills.

The VC, who was represented by the Director of the Scheme, Prof. Dennis Aribodor, explained that SIWES program which was introduced by the Federal Government was geared towards exposing students of tertiary institutions to real-life work situations they will meet after graduation.

He said it would equally expose them to work methods and techniques in the handling of equipment and machinery that may not be available in their institutions.

Ahaneku further praised the SIWES unit of the institution for remaining focused and committed in scouting for placements for the students.

He assured the management of ITF of the continued support of the university towards the realization of the objectives of ITF, thanking the FG for its support over the years.
