The University of Lagos (UNILAG), according to Tribune News, has debunked the statement by the Lagos zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), claiming that Wale Babalakin (SAN), Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the University of meddling in the affairs of the University.
According to Tribune News, the university said the accusation was baseless and untrue.
This defense was contained in a statement signed by the Registrar of UNILAG, Mr. Oladejo Azeez.
“That Babalakin held a meeting with members of senate in the university’s senate chamber is not an offence, more so that two of his predecessors, Aare Afe Babalola and the late Deacon Gamaliel Onosode also held similar meetings during their tenures at the same venue.
“That he also held a town hall meeting with all members of staff of the university when he assumed office with other council members in attendance is in order more so that such meeting was for the good of the entire university,” the statement read.
According to the Registrar, Babalakin has never drawn any allowance nor financial benefit since assumption of office instead, he spends his personal resources for the institution.
