The Federal Government has stated that the N1.2 billion hostel donated by the Aliko Dangote Foundation to the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, is the single largest donation by an individual in the history of Nigerian Universities.

Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), who represented President Muhammad Buhari at the commissioning of the hostel, extended the FG’s appreciation to the President of the Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.

“You have done what no other Nigerian has done since 1984 when the first university was founded. This is the single largest intervention by any individual in any university in this country in the 70 years history of our university system. So I congratulate Alhaji Aliko Dangote,” the President stated.

The Executive Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, who is an alumnus of the institution, also praised Dangote for the massive project.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, stated that Dangote would forever remain dear to the university.
