The Executive Governor of Ondo state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has stated that the government alone cannot fund education in Nigeria.
The Governor, who is also the Visitor to Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko also called on corporate bodies and wealthy individuals to assist the education sector of the country.
According to the Guardian News, Akeredolu, at the 18th convocation ceremony of AAUA on Friday, said that the university had moved from 31st position last year to be ranked the 18th best university according to the latest Webometric ranking of universities in Nigeria.
“The time is now for everybody, including corporate organizations and wealthy individuals to join government in funding education, as the government cannot do it alone.
“While as a government and proprietor to the university, we would contribute and continue to do our best to sustain the achievements of this great university. We would like to appeal to stakeholders to seek time-tested and creative ways that have been used by world-class universities to build the university,” the Governor said.
The former Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof. Michael Faborode also graced the convocation ceremony.
“The graduates of AAUA are competent products that have excelled in further studies for higher degrees as well as in the work force for the state and other areas of the national economy,” the former VC stated.
