The Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has granted the University of Benin (UNIBEN) license for 15 megawatt solar power project.
Prof. Faraday Orumwense, Vice Chancellor of the institution disclosed this during the pre-convocation press briefing.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the VC of the institution said the operational license was secured under a Public Private Partnership arrangement.
“The power project is being driven by the United Kingdom branch of the university alumni body,” the VC explained.
The VC also said that the institution is currently negotiating with local and international organizations for hostel development and staff housing projects for improved security.
The 44th convocation and 48th Founder’s Day ceremony of the university is billed to hold this week.
