The Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) is seeking to correct a serious misconception of certain paragraphs in its last press release.
It’s been widely reported by even some of the major newspapers in the country including premiumtimesng.com that JAMB has “scrapped awaiting results”, thereby making people have the fear that prospective candidates awaiting their WAEC results or NECO results can no longer write JAMB and therefore would not be allowed to write this year’s JAMB examination.
Here are the paragraphs of the press release that appear to have been misunderstood, the paragraphs read:
“In the cause of conducting admission exercise, many institutions have admitted candidates on merit only for them to discover that such candidates do not have qualified O’levels results or the right combination for admission and had to delete and start the process all over again. With this, they would have denied other qualified candidates the opportunities for admissions.”
“This we are addressing by ensuring that no candidate is henceforth recommended without his O’levels result being supplied. To achieve this, JAMB will insist that candidates supply their result on its website during registration or later, but before admissions commence for them to be considered for admissions. We believe this will allow only qualified candidates to be considered for admissions.”
“We have designed a Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) where the Board will interface with the institutions and ensure the compliance of this reform. The summary is that no candidate will be admitted with awaiting the result. Candidates and their parents are also to note that the Board has restructured the registration platform to allow for only one choice of Public University. The new registration platform will now be first choice, second choice, third choice and fourth choice and not most preferred, preferred etc as it was.”
A finding by Campusbiz has shown that JAMB is not actually barring prospective candidates with awaiting results from writing the forthcoming examination. JAMB, through its official Twitter handle, has made it clear that candidates with awaiting results would be allowed to write the exams and they would be required to provide the results before admission. See the tweets below:
Point of correction, candidates with awaiting results can register and write our examination.
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
1. JAMB has NOT scrapped Awaiting result for prospective candidates for the forthcoming exam.
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
2. Candidates with Awaiting results can apply. But they must have gotten their results at the point of admission into their institution
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
3. If you apply with Awaiting Result at the point of registration, your result must be available while u go for screening for admission.
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
JAMB will not deny any Candidate the right to quality education. Please don't be misguided. Part of the press statement was misunderstood
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
That is why during registration those with results will be uploading their results, while Awaiting Result candidates will not upload anything
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
Registration is not on yet, we will start this Month and when we do we will announce to the world.
— JAMB (@JAMBHQ)
In light of the above clarification from JAMB, if you’re still awaiting your WAEC Result or NECO Result please go ahead and register for JAMB if you’re sure you can provide the result if you’re offered admission by an institution if your JAMB result is good. Use the comment section below to tell us what you think about this or ask your questions, we’ll surely provide you an answer if we can.
