The Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA) has officially expelled six students for brutally assaulting another student of the institution which occurred at the victim’s residence off-campus.
In a video that went viral last week, the six students, Popoola, Faith, Jessica, Emmanuella, Emmanuel and Cecilia were seen assaulting their colleague for gossiping about one of them. One of them recorded the incidence and posted it on social media.
According to findings by campusbiz, their expulsion was confirmed in a statement by the Deputy Director, Corporate Communications of the institution, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, on Tuesday.
“The punishment meted out to the affected students is not to pander to the justifiable public outcry that greeted their odious act but in tandem with the rules and regulations as contained in the Students Code of Conduct as stipulated in the University and oath of Matriculation which all students are made to sign and subscribe to.
“The Federal University of Technology Akure will not tolerate any form of indiscipline or breach of university regulations,” the statement reads.
