No fewer than 9,781 students have been matriculated into various degree programs of the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) despite the challenges of the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno state.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Ibrahim Njodi, disclosed this, yesterday, during the 38th matriculation event of the institution.
The VC stated that despite the security situation in Borno state, over 40,000 candidates applied for admission into the institution for the 2018/2019 academic session.
He noted that the university cannot overshoot the quota allocated to it by the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“As peace is gradually returning to the state, UNIMAID has continued to attract unprecedented number of prospective candidates throughout the country and even beyond,” the VC stated.
Njodi cautioned the matriculating students against involving themselves in ugly vices such as examination malpractices, cultism, drug abuse and violent demonstration.
He warned that the university authority will not hesitate to deal decisively with any student or group of students who indulge themselves in any act that will cause breach of peace on the university campus.
Report reveals the new students were admitted from the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry excluding post graduate degree students.
