The University of Port-Harcourt is set for the 14th edition of the West African University Games (WAUG), it will be the biggest and most competitive in history of the games. This statement was made by Prof. Ken Anugweje, one of the members of the Local Organizing Committee of WAUG.
According to The Guardian, the games competition will hold at the University of Port-Harcourt from on the 13th of October to the 12th of November 2018. The UNIPORT 2018 WAUG will not feature diploma students or students in affiliated centers of universities unlike previous editions. The 2018 WAUG is strictly for undergraduates and postgraduates, as the LOC moves to curb the influence of mercenaries at the Games.
The Vice Chancellor of UNIPORT, Ndowa Lale, as well as the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Chairman of the LOC, Anthony Ibe, had confirmed in different interviews that the institution was prepared to host the 2018 WAUG in terms of facilities and logistics.
“WAUG is the gathering of the best brains in West Africa, tomorrow’s leaders who combine academic and sporting excellence. Hosting a well organized and successful game will make the participants leave Nigeria with a positive impression, which will shape their perception of Nigeria forever,” Lale said.
