YSU Joins ASUU Strike

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) branch of the Yobe State University (YSU), Damaturu has joined the ongoing industrial action declared by the union on the 5th of Nov. 2018 over poor funding of public universities across the nation.
According to Daily Post News, the state university which was to resume on the 19th of November, 2018 with lectures commencing on the 10th of December 2018 as stipulated in the recently released time table by the directorate of academic planning of the university, may now be halted due to the ongoing strike.
Mohammed Adamu Gulani, chairman of the YSU ASUU branch has confirmed that the academic staff of the institution has fully complied with the ongoing nationwide strike.
“Yes, Yobe State University branch is part of the ongoing ASUU strike. We are chartered branch, so we have to join the strike,” the chairman said.
“As a chartered branch, we cannot run away from the mother union, despite the fact that the university will soon commence the registration of new and returning students,” he added.
